Tweed Run 2017

The now well established institution of the Tweed Run took place for the 4th consecutive year with the Poseidonion Grand Hotel of Spetses in cooperation with the Hellenic Bike Museum. The undeniable interest in this unique event with its references to values of a bygone era were confirmed once more, with Spetses being the ideal backdrop and participants filling the hotel and the Poseidonion Square with their bicycles in their elegant vintage attire.

For the second year running the event was supported by Barbour in its role as Grand Sponsor, with the company’s fine clothing filling the island of Spetses.

From early Saturday morning, the participants gathered in the Poseidonion Grand Hotel with the men enjoying  moustache grooming and shoe-shining while the hotel’s hairdressing salon took care of the women’s hair styling. Valuable classic bikes, immaculate appearances down to the very last detail and smiles between friends and acquaintances were all gathered together in the lobby of the hotel and the Poseidonion Square.

The commencement of the spring cycle began with the customary family photograph on the steps of the Poseidonion Grand Hotel and then the first stop took place in the courtyard of the Anargyrios and Korgialenios School of Spetses. The attendees enjoyed tea and donuts under the shade of the towering pines and the majestic school buildings.

Afterwards, the ride continued towards the Old Port with a stop off on the way at the Orloff restaurant against the backdrop of the impressive contrasting colours of the cloudy Spetsian sky. Once at the lighthouse with its lovely view of the Argosaronic, it was time for a picnic inspired by the traditional British custom, which had been prepared by the hotel chef, Stamatis Marmarinos,

The bike ride concluded with the last stop being at the Bouboulina Museum, where the vintage cycles were awarded prizes in the categories ‘Classic Bike’, ‘Town Bike’, ‘Race Bike’ and ‘The Best Decorated Bike’. The award ceremony took place in the courtyard of the Museum with the contestant’s bicycles lined up outside the historic residence.

The highlight of the event was the vintage beauty pageant which took place in the lobby of the Poseidonion Grand Hotel, with male, female and children’s outfits making an impression on the judging panel. Lydia Zani, PR and Marketing Manager of Notos COM, the actress Natalia Dragoumi, Kelly Desipri, Web Editor of Madame Figaro, Haris Davlas, founder of the In Icons We Trust blog, Chrisianna Andriopoulou, Founder of the blog Shoprano and Panagiotis Grigoriou, owner of 1900 The Barber Shop, made up the judging panel that evaluated the lovely appearances in a climate full of good humour.

The participants were judged in the categories of ‘Best Dressed Male’, ‘Best Dressed Female’, ‘Best Group Entry’, ‘Best Moustache’ and “Best Child Entry’. The awards ended with the presentation of an honorary plaque to the local authorities as well as to the Hellenic Bike Museum as a tribute to the founder, Ioannis Sinanoglou, for his contribution to the field of bicycles. The evening continued in the lobby of the Poseidonion Grand Hotel with cocktails, accompanied by the sounds of rock and swing by Johnny Vavouras & The Cadillacs.

On Sunday the tweeders enjoyed brunch on the verandah of the Poseidonion Grand hotel while some tried their skills at the bike trials in Poseidonion Square, bringing the event in this way to a very successful end.
